Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
The short version: This site is free to read. I only collect your email if you sign up for the newsletter or write to me. I don't sell your information. Ads (if shown) and affiliate links come from outside companies that may use cookies, and you can opt out of personalized ads anytime.
Who runs this site
Just Spilling the Bits is an independent site covering AI news and hands-on reviews of everyday tools. It's run by one person. In this policy, "I," "me," and "the site" all mean the same thing. If you have questions, email hello@justspillingthebits.com.
What information I collect
- Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, I collect your email address so I can send you the weekly email. That's it.
- Messages you send me. If you email me, I'll have your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- Basic technical data. Like nearly every website, the company that hosts this site (Cloudflare) automatically processes things like your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. This is used to deliver the site, keep it fast, and protect it from attacks.
- Visitor statistics. I may use privacy-friendly analytics to see which pages get read. If I do, it counts visits in aggregate and isn't used to identify you.
I don't ask for your name, address, phone number, or payment details, and there are no accounts to create.
How I use it
- To send the newsletter you signed up for
- To reply to your messages
- To understand what readers find useful, so I can write more of it
- To keep the site running and secure
I don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. The site itself doesn't need cookies to work. However, the advertising and affiliate partners described below may set their own cookies when you visit or click a link.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work if you do.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
To keep the site free, I may show ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized ads at aboutads.info.
- Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you'll be asked for consent before personalized ads or advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time.
Ads never affect what I write or how I score a tool.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The store or affiliate network may use a cookie to track that the sale came from this site. I don't receive your personal details from them. Affiliate deals never change a verdict, and every review lists the downs as well as the ups.
The newsletter
The newsletter is sent through a third-party email service, which stores subscriber email addresses on my behalf and may record basic stats like whether an email was opened. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away.
Links to other sites
Reviews and news stories link to other websites. Once you leave this site, their privacy policies apply, not this one.
Children's privacy
This site is meant for adults and isn't directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has signed up for the newsletter, email me and I'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime using the link in any email.
- Ask me what information I have about you, or ask me to delete it, by emailing hello@justspillingthebits.com.
- Opt out of personalized ads using the links in the advertising section above.
Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you may have additional rights under local law. I'll honor any valid request.
How long I keep information
Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe. Emails you send me are kept only as long as they're useful for replying or following up.
Changes to this policy
If anything here changes, I'll update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. Big changes will also get a mention in the newsletter.
